Remove a Tattoo - Convinced That You Should Get Rid Of Your Tattoo

Are you one of many people who want to remove a tattoo from their skin? Maybe that "Jane Forever!" on your upper arm isn't going down well with your current girlfriend Mary.

There are many reasons why people want to get rid of tattoos. The good news is, there are procedures out there that can help you remove a tattoo. The downside, however, is that most of these procedures are painful and cost a lot of money. But, if you can afford it and truly believe your tattoos have run their course, then by all means, check out these methods that can help you remove a tattoo.

Tattoo Removal Procedures to Consider

Excision. With this method, you can remove a tattoo easily, small ones especially. Bigger tattoos can be worked upon in stages, starting with the middle of the tattoo first then working towards the sides, removing them at later dates so as not to complicate the procedure and subject the body to too much surgery. Excision is performed by first applying a local anesthetic then removing the tattoo surgically. The wound is then sewn together; skin grafts may be used for larger patches of flesh. If you remove a tattoo with this method, scarring is dead certain.

Laser. Laser surgery is considered by many doctors and patients to be the best approach if you want to remove a tattoo The procedure is fairly straightforward. A topical cream anesthetic is sometimes applied before the tattoo is bombarded by either a wave or pulse laser form which breaks up the pigments. The broken ink is then naturally absorbed by the body whose cleansing process gets rid of the diffused ink. Some tattoos may need a few laser sessions to be fully destroyed.

Dermabrasion. As the name implies, dermabrasion is the method of rubbing the skin with a special tool to whittle down the tattoo and send it off in flakes. You remove a tattoo by first spraying it with a unique freezing spray which stiffens the area. Then a rotary abrasive tool is used to sand down the skin and make the tattoo gradually peel. Bleeding is certain and dressings are applied quickly to stem the flow.

Salabrasion. Although this is an ancient tattoo removal technique, some people still use it today as it can be performed by practically anyone. The area is numbed first (if an anesthetic is available) and then wiped with a solution of ordinary water and salt (sea water is just as good). An abrasive tool is then used to scrub the area until it turns dark red. Once the procedure is complete, dressings are applied to keep the wound from becoming infected. The tattoo reduction may take time so the procedure may be repeated at a later date to get rid of the remnants of the tattoo.

As you can see, these tattoo removal procedures can be quite painful (the feeling of laser treatment is akin to fresh frying oil washed over your skin... according to some people!). But they get the job done better than anything else. Just always bear in mind that your skin will never return to its original, pre-tattoo condition. Scarring and discoloration will always occur. So grin and bear it folks!
